
- The Universal Acceptance (UA) workshop on Internationalized Domain Names (IDNs) and Multilingual Internet organized by Theekshana R&D under ICANN’s Local Initiative Project was held on 30th May, 2024 at Sri Lanka Institute of Development Administration (SLIDA).
- Software and Web Developers from various organizations such as LankaCom, Metropolitan Technologies, and experts from various Universities such as the University of Kalenia and Open University of Sri Lanka participated in the workshop.
- Mr. Champika Wijayatunga, Regional Technical Manager of ICANN presented remotely to the workshop.
- Prof. Damitha Karunaratna, Director at Theekshana also participated in the workshop.
- The welcome address was done by Mr. Harsha Wijayawardhana, Chair of ICANN funded Local Initiative Project, followed by the introduction to the IDNs and Universal Acceptance by Mr. Champika Wijayatunga.
- UA local Initiative in Sri Lanka and LGR Panel work and MSR5 were further demonstrated by Mr. Champika Wijayatunga and Mr. Harsha Wijayawardhana.
- Later, the introduction to Unicode and a detailed session on incorporating Unicode in Software Development relating to Internationalized Domain Names (IDNs), UA-compliant Sinhala and Tamil – Email Servers, contact forms and websites were presented by Mr. Harsha Wijayawardhana, Chair of ICANN funded Local Initiative Project, Local Language Working Group (LLWG).
- Introduction Unicode Programming and IDNA2003 vs IDNA2008 were further discussed during the workshop.
